StemTech HealthSciences of Klamath Falls, Oregon, would like you to believe that StemEnhance™ can help many health problems. The product's label describes it as an extract of Aphanizomenon flos aquae, a species of blue-green algae harvested from a lake in Klamath Lake in Oregon. The retail price for a bottle of 60 capsules is about $60. The recommended dosage is 2-4 capsules per day.

According to its promoters, StemEnhance stimulates the release of stem cells from bone marrow, and the cells then circulate where they are needed and somehow replace dysfunctional cells. Here's what they say:

StemEnhance is a breakthrough, natural botanical extract that supports wellness by helping your body maintain healthy stem cell physiology. It is the very first product on the market from the latest phytoceutical product category called “stem cell enhancers. . . .

Recent scientific developments have revealed that stem cells derived from the bone marrow, travel throughout the body, and act to support optimal organ and tissue function. Stem cell enhancers are products that support the natural role of adult stem cells. . . .

Background History

StemEnhance appears to be the brainchild of Christian Drapeau and Gitte S. Jensen, Ph.D. Drapeau is director of Research and Development for Desert Lake Technologies, of Klamath Falls, Oregon. Desert Lake's Web site says that before that, he spend five years as director for research and development for Cell Tech International, a multilevel company whose primary products are derived from blue-green algae [2]. The Web site also states that Drapeau holds a master of science degree in neurology and neurosurgery. Jensen is director of research for Holger NIS Inc., of Port Dover, Ontario, Canada. Holger's Web site states that her Ph.D. is in immunology and that she has done research projects on immunology, cancer biology and metastasis, and nutrition [3].

In February 2002, Medical Hypothesis published a report in which Jensen and Drapeau speculated that adult stem cells from bone marrow might be capable of migrating to various tissues where they could produce regeneration and repair. They also urged others to look for substances that could trigger such mobilization [4]. A few months later they applied for a patent in the United States for a method for "enhancing stem cell trafficking." The patent document states that they had administered blue-green algae preparations and detected increased circulating stem cell levels in humans and laboratory animals [5]. The patent was awarded in November 2004. Stem Tech HealthSciences, which is a multilevel marketing company, registered its domain in September 2005 and began soliciting distributors through the Internet soon afterward.

Desert Lake Technologies was incorporated in 1999. In addition to Drapeau, three of its executives worked for Cell Tech for several years. Robert Longo was Cell Tech's chief financial officer; Michael Jubie was its process engineer; and Peter York was its harvest engineer. In July 2000, Drapeau notified the FDA that Desert Lake intended to claim that its blue-green algae product Summa would be claimed to "help maintain a healthy cholesterol level." The FDA responded that that the claim would be illegal [6].

In 2001, a citizen's group filed a suit in California objecting to 30 claims Cell Tech had made in brochures or on its Web site. In February 2003, the judge ruled that all of the challenged statements were deceptive. He banned their further use in California and ordered Cell Tech to refund the full purchase price to California consumers who purchased its algae products between October 1997 and September 2002 [7].

Over the years, concerns have been raised that blue-green algae products might contain dangerous toxins [8-10].

Unanswered Questions

Before taking any product, it is advisable to know whether it has been proven safe and effective for its intended purpose(s). With respect to StemEnhance, the following questions would have to be answered:

What evidence shows that taking StemEnhance will improve anyone's health?
Has any study shown that people improved their health as a result of taking it?
What evidence shows that StemEnhance is safe for long-term use?
How can users be certain that long-term use will not cause abnormal tissue growth?
For whom is the product advisable?
Who should not take it?
Some studies have found that circulating stem cells from bone marrow can develop into a few other types of mature cells [11,12]. Most of these studies were done in animals and should not be interpreted as applicable to humans. Human studies have found that found that injecting stem cells into the coronary arteries might be beneficial and that the number of circulating stem cells may help determine the prognosis for cardiovascular disease [13]. As far as I know, however, no study has demonstrated that increasing the number of circulating cells—as StemEnhance is claimed to do—is safe to do over a long period of time, is effective against human disease, or makes people generally healthier.

TSC2000 Europe Ltd has agreed to orders made by the Northern Territory Supreme Court to not advertise to Territorians or accept new registrations from Territory addresses for its OzPower System.

TSC made no admissions to the court after Territory Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, Gary Clements, started the legal proceedings in an attempt to stop the scheme.

Because the case did not proceed to a trial, the court did not have to judge whether the scheme was legal or not.

The company agreed to "prominently display" a notice on its website that says Territorians may not become members, and send all Territory members an email explaining the court action and undertakings the company gave to the court.

TSC will also have to accept any membership cancellations without charging any of the usual fees.

It is allowed to continue to operate its website, but is not allowed to advertise specifically to Territorians.

If the company breaches any of its undertakings, it could be prosecuted for being in contempt of court.

Mr Clements said the agreement was the first of its kind made in the NT.

Da der Text über die massenhaft versendeten, betrügerischen Mahnschreiben der Content4U GmbH auch jetzt noch, einen Monat später, jeden Tag zwischen 200mal und 500mal gelesen wird, scheint das Thema der dreisten Abzocke im Internet mit gefühlter Nähe zum offenen Betrug ja weiterhin sehr aktuell zu sein. Klar, die Empfehlung, dass man so eine völlig unbegründete Mahnung nicht bezahlen sollte — nein, auf gar keinen Fall sollte man die unbegründeten Mahnungen der Content4U GmbH und vergleichbarer Betrugsfirmen bezahlen — diese Empfehlung ist schnell ausgesprochen. Manche Menschen haben diese Empfehlung auch gefunden, andere nicht, und etliche werden eingeschüchtert die unbegründete Mahnung bezahlt haben. Damit, dass man dieses in Rechnung gestellte Geld auch bezahlt, ist übrigens eine „Anerkennung der Schuld“ verbunden. Das heißt: In dem Moment, in dem man diesen Schurken Geld überwiesen hat (ein Teilbetrag reicht), hat man sich jeder Handhabe gegen die dreiste und betrügerische Nummer beraubt und der Anspruch dieses Packs besteht zu recht. Viele werden so eingeschüchtert sein, dass sie erst nach der Überweisung mit dem Nachdenken beginnen — schließlich ist ein negativer Schufa-Eintrag und eine Gehaltspfändung mehr als nur „ein bisschen“ peinlich, und in einigen Fällen ist so etwas existenzbedrohend. Von dieser Einschüchterung lebt die betrügerische „Firma“ Content4U GmbH, denn wenn auch nur fünf Prozent der Empfänger dieser „Letzten Mahnung“ Geld überweisen, denn können sich die beiden sauberen Herren, die da oben als Einladung an den Speireflex mal im Bilde gezeigt sind (Quelle: Die Dreckschleuder), mit diesem Geld schon eine ganze Menge verfeinerten Lebensstiles leisten, ohne dass sie sich dafür besonders anstrengen müssten.

Vermutlich zahlen mehr als fünf Prozent der Empfänger. Eine besondere Aufklärung über derartige „Letzte Mahnungen“ und die besonderen „Geschäftsmodelle“ von Firmen wie der „Content4U GmbH“ in den breiter rezipierten Medien ist mir jedenfalls in den letzten Wochen nicht aufgefallen, obwohl es gerade sehr zu brennen scheint. Insbesondere ist so etwas kein Thema für das staatliche Fernsehen der BRD, das ja schon seit langer Zeit auch von jenen Menschen über eine „Rundfunkgebühr“ genannte Zwangsabgabe mitfinanziert wird, die auf Glotze und Rieselradio dankend verzichten, aber dafür einen Computer (auch einen ohne Internetzugang, denn jeder Computer ist ein Rundfunkempfänger!) besitzen. Nein, daraus folgt für das staatliche Fernsehen der BRD keineswegs, dass auch vor derartigen Betrugsmaschen im Zusammenhang des Internet aufgeklärt werden sollte. Wozu auch? Krätzmilbe, Kakerlake und Co. unterhält doch viel besser, und die populären P’litshows sind viel zu beschäftigt damit, die Ausbreitung der massenhaften Verarmung und die Umwandlung der BRD in ein Billiglohnland voller mit Angstpeitsche willig gemachtem „Menschenmaterales“ als neue und alternativlose Form der „Sozialpolitik“ zu verherrlichen.

Dass ein so genannter „Qualitätsjournalist“ mal dazu beiträgt, dass die Menschen über das als Konkurrenzmedium empfundene Internet nicht so abgezogen werden, ist nach wie vor Fehlanzeige. Und so ein marginalisiertes Blog wie dieses hier… bin ich doch mal ehrlich… hat nun wirklich keine besondere Reichweite und Breitenwirkung.

Fragt sich nur, warum diese Leute, die eine vorsätzlich irreführende Website betreiben und Mahnbriefe mit vorsätzlich irreführenden Rechnungsbeträgen und einschüchternden Tonfall in Gießkannenmentalität unter die Menschen in der BRD, in Österreich und in der Schweiz schicken, warum diese Halunken noch rumlaufen können? Warum diese Briefe weiterhin rausgehen? Warum weiterhin Menschen mit bedrohlich formulierten Mumpitz-Mahnungen dazu gebracht werden können, ihre sauer verdienten Kröten an ein paar äußerst fragwürdige und offen asoziale Gestalten zu überweisen? Warum es so sicher wie das Amen in der Kirche ist, dass diese „Content4U“-Betrüger in ein paar Monaten unter einer neuen Firmierung völlig unbehelligt die gleiche Nummer abziehen werden, denn das machen sie schon seit Jahren? Warum auch nach mehreren Jahren derartiger Betrugsnummern am äußersten Rande der Legalität keine juristische Handhabe gegen diesen Abschaum zu bestehen scheint?

Die naheliegendste Antwort auf derartige Fragen ist verblüffend einfach: Weil derartige Rechtsunsicherheiten bei der Internetnutzung in der BRD p’litisch gewünscht sind. Deshalb gibt es keine Antwort des Gesetzgebers (das ist unter anderem ihr Bundestagsabgeordneter) auf derartige „Geschäftsmodelle“. Deshalb bekommt ein Mensch, der zum zweiten oder dritten Mal beim so genannten „Schwarzfahren“ erwischt wurde, in der BRD einige Tagesätze aufgebrummt, die er wegen seiner Armut (die ihn ja auch zum „Schwarzfahrer“ machte) oft als Haft absitzen muss, während auf der anderen Seite derartige Fäkalmaden auch nach Jahren eines Lebens vom Betrug und einigen zusammengegaunerten Millionen niemals einen Gerichtssaal und erst recht kein Gefängnis von innen sehen und ihre betrügerischen Nummern immer und immer wieder durchziehen können — bis sich vielleicht mal jemand erbarmt und das Problem in Selbstjustiz löst.

Klar, Mitglieder der classe politique reden gern davon, dass das Internet „kein rechtsfreier Raum“ sein darf, und ihre journalistischen Speichellecker geben dies zu gern wieder, ohne auch nur eine Frage dazu zu stellen. Aber damit meinen diese populistischen Lügner regelmäßig keinen Schutz der Internetnutzer vor Betrugstechniken, die seit vielen Jahren bekannt sind und deren beabsichtigte Heimtücke schon beim bloßen Hinschauen offenbar wird. Nein, damit meinen diese populistischen Lügner regelmäßig und ausschließlich Techniken zur Einrichtung einer unkontrollierbaren Internetzensur in der BRD und Vorhaben zu einer immer weiter gehenden Kriminalisierung ganz gewöhnlicher Techniknutzung und zu einer ins Absurde ausgeweiteten Bürokratisierung des Internet in der BRD. Schon heute kann der arglose Betrieb einer einfachen, persönlichen Website ohne besondere Reichweite unter den Bedingungen einer gezielt geschaffenen Rechtsunsicherheit und des besonderen Abmahnwesens in der BRD zu einem existenzbedrohend teuren Abenteuer werden, und die damit verbundene Einschüchterung der Menschen mit ihrem Mitteilungsdrang scheint durchaus gut in die jüngeren p’litischen Absichten zu passen. Eine Stärkung elementarer Verbraucherrechte — wie zum Beispiel das Recht, nicht á la „Content4U“ halblegal abgezockt werden zu können — passt weniger in die jüngeren p’litischen Absichten. Die in den sichtbar werdenden p’litischen Absichten sich offenbarenden Tendenzen machen dabei auch recht deutlich, welcher Menschen und Gruppen Interessen in der P’litik der BRD vertreten werden, und welcher Menschen und Gruppen Interessen in der P’litik der BRD als nichtswürdig erachtet und mit Füßen getreten werden.

Das ist der p’litische Boden, auf dem verbrecherische Firmen wie die Content4U GmbH erblühen können — gut gedüngt vom Kot, den der Bundesadler selbst über der BRD ablässt. Platsch!
